(Deutsche Projektbeschreibung: www.uninetz.at)

The UniNEtZ project unites over 200 scientists and artists from 18 universities and partner organizations from all over Austria to design options for implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As well as the SDGs cover a broad variety of fields, the UniNEtZ- Project works on an inter- and transdisciplinary bases, building and fostering cooperation between different research fields and universities, including artists and civil society organizations. The correlating synergy effects support also the inclusion of sustainability issues in research and teaching.

From 2019-2021, the UniNEtZ –Partners work out an options’ report to support the Austrian government to put the SDGs into action. The scientific basis for guiding political decisions and for developing meaningful options and measures for the SDG’s implementation are provided by the participating universities. To accomplish this task, each university partner supports each other and hosts one/two of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

University Salzburg takes responsibility for the SDG 1 (Zero Poverty) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality). The Department of Geography and Geology (Social Geography), in cooperation with the Centre for Ethics and Poverty Research (CEPR), deal with questions on poverty reduction in Austria. Questions on inequalities in Austria are covered by the Sociology Department. Both SDG-Teams cooperate closely to generate and deduce appropriate options as scientific support. For the participation in the UniNEtZ, the University Salzburg provided two Senior Scientist positions for three years.
